After placing the markers on the patient's teeth or securing the Jaw Motion Tracker to the dental arch, our software and MetiSmile need to recognize the marker coordinates for subsequent alignment and trajectory tracking.
Preparation:
- Assist the patient in wearing a disposable retractor to keep the mouth open.
- Dry, clean, and disinfect the teeth surface with an alcohol swab or a 3-way syringe to remove saliva, blood, or plaque.
- Attach markers to the anterior teeth, ideally placing 4 markers on both the upper jaw and lower jaw. Please note that markers should not be positioned in a straight line.
- Enter the number of markers placed and click Confirm.
- Choose Handheld Mode or Fixed Mode in the lower-left corner of the interface. Our Jaw Motion Module keeps the handheld mode by default, which is convenient for patients lying on a dental chair. In fixed mode, the camera window mirrors the scan.
Start scanning:
- Instruct the patient to keep the head still, maintain a stable expression, and ensure the jaws are in an occlusion. For this step, the scanner will automatically verify whether the total number of detected markers matches the initial setting.
- Ask the patient to open their mouth slightly. The camera will automatically recognize the number of markers on the upper jaw and lower jaw separately.
Tips:
- If the recognized marker count matches the input number, the marker coordinates are automatically saved.
- If the counts do not match, adjust the patient’s facial position or reattach the markers.
- If recognized markers turn red, please check the scanning angle and ensure the markers are visible, not moved, or wet. If issues persist, please reattach the markers or recalibrate the device.
