Overview
The cap scan body is a solution to resolve the difficulties and problems occurring in aligning soft tissues and coded scan bodies in immediate loading cases. In immediate loading cases, some factors can lead to the failure of automatic alignment, requiring further manual alignment:
- Instability of post-op soft tissues
- Covered feature of coded scan bodies’ surfaces by blood or saliva
- Unclear feature points
Hence, the cap scan body is seamlessly introduced into the original digital workflow to realize a more smooth and fluent scan flow. This article introduces the background and usage of the cap scan body.
How to scan with cap scan bodies?
STEP 1: Check the cap scan body
Users should check some important things in advance.
- Type
Please check the type letters. For instance, the cap scan body has “CS-AA.” The last letter, “A,” indicates that it is compatible with the HACS-A kit.
Due to their unique connection structures and compatible MUAs, each type of cap scan body and coded scan body kit corresponds one to one. Users should not mix different types of cap scan bodies.
- Clean and sterilization
Please check the surface and the screw structure to ensure the cap scan body is in a good situation. No blood and no damage.
STEP 2: Create an order
The interface in the new version is different from those in previous versions from 3.5.5.3 due to the introduction of cap scan bodies.
- Input the patient information.
- Select “intraoral photogrammetry”.
- Select implant positions.
- Click “cap scan body”.
- Download or confirm the HACS library.
- Click “scan”.
STEP 3: Capture implant positions
In the post-op stage with well suturing, place HACS on MUAs after surgery and capture implant positions with Elite. Please refer to the previous article: Coded Scan Body Placement and Coded Scan Body Scan.
STEP 4: Scan the post-op soft tissue
After removing HACS, install cap scan bodies on MUAs by hand or screwdriver. We recommend users use at least 3 cap scan bodies to get alignment, but users can use the minimum 2 cap scan bodies in a case. Please ensure the force is appropriate. Then, scan all surfaces of the hexagons with intraoral and edentulous modes.
If it successfully recognizes the cap scan body, there will be a tooth number label and a notice of alignment in the upper-right corner. After scanning, the software will automatically convert and align the HACS and cap scan body data together.
Tips: Manual alignment
If the automatic alignment fails, users can manually align the data. Click “manual alignment” and select 3 groups of data to get alignment from both sides. The same color indicates the corresponding selection of data.
If users only use 2 cap scan bodies, please click “only two cap scanbodies exist” and then manually align the data.
Tips: Scan sequence
Users can flexibly change the scan sequence of soft tissues and cap scan bodies.
STEP 5: Conversion
Users can convert the coded scan body into the target brand implant system. Please refer to the previous article: Conversion.
As for cleaning and sterilization, please refer to the article: Cleaning and Sterilization for Cap Scan Bodies.
