Pre-op Scan & Bite Registration

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Overview

In the pre-operative scan stage, users can acquire the temporary teeth data for the final restoration or the pre-operative teeth data for immediate loading, which enables users to record the bite data subsequently. In the final restoration, the temporary teeth are significant for obtaining the bite data. The scan strategy of the temporary teeth differs from that of the natural teeth. This article describes a flow to scan the temporary teeth in the pre-op scan stage and the bite registration and gives some suggestions.

How to scan the pre-op scan and the bite?

STEP 1: Scan temporary teeth

When users enable the pre-op scan in creating an order, users can scan the temporary teeth. The scan is added to the first stage of the whole process.

Notoriously, the temporary teeth are not real teeth, and it is difficult to obtain the data with normal AI. Hence, we provide the All-on-X provisional denture mode to assist users in acquiring more accurate and clear data.

Besides, it is significant to scan the transition part of the gingival and the temporary teeth to ease the alignment in the next stage.

Tips:

At present, only fixed temporary teeth are supported to get alignment with soft tissues in the following stage. Hence, if the denture covers the most of gingiva, the alignment will be failed.

STEP 2: Scan natural teeth

If the patient has only a single jaw to implant, there is a stage to scan the antagonist jaw with natural teeth. Please scan the natural teeth normally to obtain the data.

If the patient has both jaws to implant, please repeat STEP 1 for the other jaw.

STEP 3: Register bite

The approaches and scan strategies are similar to those in normal cases with temporary teeth.

Tips: In the final restoration stage, enabling the intraoral mode can stratify the needs of scanning. However, for the immediate loading cases, the situations can be varied. Users can scan the original bite, or apply the putty bite to obtain the data. In that case, please consult with our technical support team for further advice.

If the patient does not have natural teeth and temporary teeth of a single jaw at the beginning, the dentist should design the occlusal height and make the bite rim or silicone rubber. If the patient does not have any tooth, the dentist should reconstruct the occlusal relationship.
