DICOM Data Integration

Overview

Users can import the DICOM data and align it with the oral and facial data to create a virtual patient. This virtual patient owns more comprehensive information, polishes the diagnosis, enhances the communication between dentists and patients, and provides more general guidance for designers to create suitable treatments. The alignment results could be imported to the EXOCAD directly without manual alignment.

How to generate a virtual patient?

STEP1: Create a new order

Create an order and input all necessary information.

STEP 2: Import intraoral data and DICOM data

Import intraoral data normally. Click the “Import DICOM data” button and find the corresponding file folder.

Select the DICOM file to import in the pop-up and click “Yes”.

STEP 3: Collect facial data

Scan the patient’s face normally.

STEP 4: Lip line extraction

Click the “Go to Pre-design” and the “Lip Line Extraction” button on the bar.

Click the “Auto extraction” button to generate lip lines.

Modify the lip lines by dragging points. After confirming by the heat map, click the “Slicing”  button.

STEP 5: Align DICOM data and intraoral data

Click the “DICOM alignment”  button to enter the interface of DICOM alignment, in which the left view is the DICOM data. Drag the point on the slider control to adjust the threshold.

Tips:

If you have not imported the DICOM data yet, you can click the DICOM data icon on the right side to select the corresponding file folder and file to import.

The right view is the intraoral data, and you can select the data of the maxilla and mandible. Pick 3 points from each view to align. Click the “Enter Manual Align”  button to finish. Subsequently, you can apply the heat map to check the alignment result.

Tips:

We recommend that the 3 points of each view should not be in a straight line.

STEP 6: Check the virtual patient

Subsequently, check the alignment results, namely, the virtual patient. This patient includes intraoral, facial and DICOM data and clearly reveals the information of the real patient.

STEP 7: Import the virtual patient in EXOCAD

The virtual patient can be exported to EXOCAD without the need of repetitive manual alignment.
