Ortho Model Resin Application Guide

Recommended Resin: OD02/ DM Series (GM12 Gingiva may be needed)

3D Printing Dental Models with AccuFab Printers

Shining 3D currently offers several model material for model applications. DM Series are specialized in different model applications, such as models for crown & bridge or implant models and separate models.

These materials feature with high toughness, high pressure resistance and low elasticity. OD02 is a high heat resistance orthodontic model which allows to withstand the abrasion from thermoforming and maintain accuracy over multiple uses.

This application guide demonstrates each step from 3D scanning to 3D printing on AccuFab printers with normal resin tank.

Use the current workflow to ensure a high satisfaction result.

Scan

Dental design software requires a clear intraoral scan data better with occlusion of the patient’s anatomy in order to create a dental model. To acquire this data, scan a patient directly with Aoralscan intraoral scanners or a traditional impression with AutoScan desktop scanners impression scan.

Design

Model Design

There are several dental dental software options providing by Shining 3D. In this application guide, we will work through using Shining 3D self-developed model creator AccuDesign 2.0. The final product will be automatically created by powered algorithm with model base thickness being set in prior.

Gingiva Design

Some of the implant casas would need a separated gingiva model. When design inside the design software – exocad, you could choose in prior in model edit phase with gingiva cut stage after. Please don’t print with dental models and export with separate .stl file.

Abutment Design

When design for the non-separated model in exocad, edit under Advanced Mode and close the gap in abutment position and export with the abutment.

Please be reminded the merge of abutment and model may cause mis-fitting of the gingiva.

How to use AccuDesign 2.0

Shining 3D provides AccuDesign2.0 for AI one-click design models with powered algorithm. Both or either upper and lower jaw can be imported. The final product would be automatically created with the base type chosen in prior. You could add the text after the model being created, also you could have minor adjustment.

Of course, if you would like to design for implant cases, you could use third party professional CAD software to design and export into .stl file.

After AI design, you can send file from ‘GO TO PRINT’ to AccuWare. Choose the correct machine and serial number in advance if you have multiple printers or first time use.

There is layer thickness options including but not only limited to range between 50 to 100um. Shining 3D software have a smooth connection, so users would not need to export and import with repeated action.

Print*Use latest AccuWare and Firmware version

One-Click Printing

Restoration one-click printing to the imported data, auto layout, support generation and slicing will be automatically performed with AI algorithm and sending into printer for printing.

Orthodontic Model One-Click printing can be used if you are printing multiple orthodontic models. Stacking technique will allow you to import no more than 48 models at a time (depend on the size of model).

Manually added support

You could place the model with base stick on the platform, support is not mandatory on dental models.

Note: If you are printing a hollow model, please make sure you either add the support or add holes on the model to avoid the vacuum environment inside the model which will cause printing failure.

Implant additional Step

You could import the gingiva model designed by exocad into AccuWare. Gingiva is suggested to stick to the base for printing to keep the base flat.

Post-Processing

You can use FabWash or scrapping tools to remove the printed parts.

FabWash

Please place the ceramic platform for cutting on FabWash first.

If you use IPA with over 75%, we suggest using the FabWash pre-set time

If you use IPA with over 90%, we suggest decreasing the pre-set time 1 or 2 min.

Hand Wash

Please use the soft brush for cleaning, prevent hard brush which may cause surface damage.Or you could place in the ultrasonic machine (150-500W) for 2 min, and wash again inside the clean IPA.

Note: Wash for too long will affect the surface accuracy.

Drying

Use the compressed air gun dry the cleaned model, please make sure the model surface is fully dried and no excess IPA and residue attaching. If there is any residues attaching (with obvious reflection showing), please repeat the above cleaning procedure to wash again. After fully dried, place for 5 min and continue the further procedure.

Post-Curing

Place the dried model in FabCure 2, make sure each model will be fully cured inside the cabin. Use the pre-set DM/OD02/GM12 parameter, or set in custom, with no heating and cured for 7 min. After curing, make sure the model to be placed for 1-2hrs for the most stable strength.
